Early 944 new dme relay problem - help!

Hi all - please see my recent Facebook plea below regarding my 944 (and my Chrysler 300c) - would appreciate suggestions and recommendations thanks...

"Help! Still have both my cars off road and need at least one of them to go to work!

944 update- new dme relay put in on Saturday after ordering it from Porsche Wolverhampton on the Friday- yes it runs but daren’t drive it as there’s an overwhelming smell of petrol.

300c update - need to have a new glow-plugs module fitted - I have it but just need a mechanic to fit it... will pay naturally..

If you can smell petrol strongly,then it's probably down to something leaking-with a fire extinguisher at your side ,start the engine & run long enough to sense the petrol smell-open the bonnet 1st -turn engine off & look for wet patches carefully at any off the fuel pipe positions especially on the fuel rail.

If there's nothing obviously leaking ,look underneath the rear of the car on the drivers side-this is where the fuel pump is mounted.

Put some clean cardboard or similar under the engine & fuel pump areas beforehand & do all this outside where nobody is smoking etc.

Other possible areas are the metal fuel pipes which run back to front of car on the underside particularly at the rear where they go over the rear suspension.

Be very carefull
 
If its an early (square dash) car with a steel fuel tank, that's a likely source of leaks, I've had two leak on me, lots of road crud gets trapped under the securing straps and they rot through. I gather the later plastic tank is a slightly different shape and won't fit.
