Early 944 Turbos, 85, 86?

I assume these all had the oval dash and the newer front end of the S, S2?
Did aircon come as standard or was it an option?
Any other comments? Thanks.

The oval dash and aerodynamic front was part of the original Turbo spec and the dash carried over to the rest of the range immediately. They all had air-con too. I'm not sure there were any '85 cars in the UK though, I'm pretty sure all customer cars were C-platers or later which I think makes them August '86 on?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Cue averyone saying "I've seen a B-reg Turbo..."[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

are the S2 turbos 3 litre engines mines a turbo SE and thats a 2.5 litre but its got all the s2 spec[8|]

There was no S2 Turbo. The Turbo was always the flagship model and the S2 was the best the NA car ever got, but it was always somewhere between the Lux and Turbo in spec although with options I guess it could be specced as a Turbo if a buyer wanted to and could afford it.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Thanks for that: there's one for sale round here for £4k ish, 137,000 miles. Was wondering if I would go and see it. Always fancied the oval dash car, a black turbo and an S2. Seems to be a good way to square all three. Don't like the teledials though, much prefer the nine spoke wheels the later turbos had (Design 90s?)
Mmm, second thoughts: better not go and look in case I end up wanting it... :)

i quite like the 16" Teledials with a relatively deep dish rears. The later D90's or forged wheels won't fit it without spacers (but Fuchs will [;)]). It will also have basically an S2 chassis but will have alloy front arms that are quite rare being both alloy and for pre-ABS offset geometry. It will also very likely have no leather and almost certainly no LSD. If it's reasonably sound it should still be a good buy though.

What I maybe didn;t make clear above is that all Turbos were 2.5 litre. It's only very recently they have started to spring up with 3.0+ displacement.

What are the offsets on the Design 90 wheels then? I had teledials on my '84 with spacers and assumed they were 50-55mm ish. Are the Design 90s different? Assume the turbo has 50-55mm offsets and not the earlier 23/17mm?

Everyting pre MY87 uses the early offsets, Turbo included. That's why I said it had a very rare alloy front arm for the pre-ABS offset. You could fit D90s with huge spacers I guess...

OK. I thought the changeover between ofsets was mid-86. Do you have any specific date for the changeover? Was it October, when the normal MY comes out?
