Early 944 wanted

Please do you have a dead or MOT failed 944 that you have lost interest in. I am looking for a restoration 944, and I can collect a non runner.

I dont mind trashed gear box, blown head gasket, un diagnosed coolant loss ect.

I plan to acquire a dodgy 944/T or 944s, bent panels are ok too. I am looking for that car which you think no one will want and is only worth scrapping. I want to put life back into it and get 10 years out of 1984-8 car which will put me in the position to sell it as a 30 year old restored Porsche and then buy a 15 year old boxster or 2o year old 968 around 2014 when I will be 40 something!

I am willing to pay you more than the scrap man and make it worth your while passing it onto me rather than footing a £3K engine change or £1.5K gear box renewal.

In 1992 I stopped a droning gearbox in a Ford Capri 280 by installing a new lay shaft and needle roller bearing set. Now I want to spend my time on something more worthy of my efforts and now that 944's are hitting the 20 year old barrier the chance of a hose pipe failing causing over heat seizure or the gearbox need new pinion bearings is right up my alley.

Of course I would love to just blow £7K on a 3.0 S2 but until the lottery comes in my only way into 944 Territory is the hard way with one of your cast offs.

A succesful referral will be rewarded

Tony

Hi

Probably stating the obvious but Loot and Autotrader are your best bet, they do come up, I've seen them, even bought one myself, I have to admit some of the cars I looked at were awful! more trouble than what they were worth, I eventually bought a 1983 944 that had been stolen / recovered, most of the work has been done it just needs a clutch which I'll start in a few weeks. I was fortunate to find a car that had been owned by the same person for 12 years and he had everything that needed doing to it sorted, I spoke to the mechanics at the garage who recovered it and they confirmed it's history.
There are cheap 944's out there and a lot of poeple will tell you to avoid them, but if poeple like us didn't take up the challenge they all be on the scrap heap and that to me is a waste of a cracking car! someones got to save them :ROFLMAO:

Yes most people will advise to steer clear of cheap Porsches, but if you go in with your eyes open and you have the mechanical nouse then the more we keep on the road the better. [:D] Do lots of research as to the price of various parts and different places to get them from, because at the end of the day Porsche parts are generally more expensive which is why the cars cost so much and last so long in the first place.

Keep an eye on Ebay, there are often very cheap 944's on there which could keep you busy for years
