Early Cayman Required

A friend of mine is considering buying an early 2.7 Cayman. Apart from the usual caveats of buying a used performance car, has anyone any specific advice on things he should watch out for on this particular model?

Best advice on any Porsche would be to get it checked over by any OPC or Porsche Specialist worth paying for the check could save heartache and lots of money. Cliff

Good advice Chris I went to see a Cayman and a 997 for someone yesterday and advised the same thing. I called PC Bolton and they would do the 111 point check, including over revs print out for £212 inc VAT. Pretty good deal for peace of mind.

Moved to the Cayman forum where it may get more attention![;)] Oh, and changed your status to PCGB Member too!

Sound advice from Cliff and Peter there Malcolm. I think that regardless of age and mileage, it's always worth looking at the service and repairs record to make sure that the car has been well cared-for. The Cayman's pretty robust and, coming relatively late to the party, benefits from the many developments carried out on the Boxster, including RMS and IMS bearing upgrades. Typical weaknesses include damage to the a/c condensers [rads] due to their low frontal location as well as corrosion of the inner surfaces of the brake discs, and wear in suspension elastomeric components is quite common on higher mileage cars. But these are all things which should be picked up on a pre-purchase inspection by a competent Porsche specialist. Jeff
