Early Cayman's fitted with different catalystic converters?

I was reading on an American forum that earlier Caymans were fitted with 400 cell cats but this caused engine management lights which caused Porsche to start fitting 600 cell cats.

Is this true?

Any info would be great. No reason in particular, I just found this interesting?

I've not heard that one before, I thought they were fitted with 400 cell primary cats in the manifolds and secondaries before the rear box, the gen2 has cat's in the manifolds and I know someone who changed his for 200 cell aftermarket items but I think there are only the manifold cats in the gen2 and 981.

I've not come across that either. It could be that the US cat spec is different from the ROW.

As Kevan says, the Porsche PET shows that the 987 Gen1 has pre-cats at the manifolds with the main cats in the silencers whereas the 987 Gen2 only has cats at the manifolds and I would expect the 981 to be the same since it uses a carry-over engine.

Interesting, I thought it sounded strange. Maybe it was just the U.S Caymans, I know the U.S has slightly different emission regulations.

I've had the secondary cats removed in my gen 1.

For once the American regulations on emissions do have one good feature, while other countries have their emissions tested on green engines ( not run in ) the americans have a stated level of emissions from the manufacturer and then call in cars for test after a period of time and mileage, if the cars don't pass test the manufacturer is in trouble!

The fact is that our cars are rated when at their worst condition and yet when run in will actually be much better than the maximum target level through their running life. This in part is the reason that cars which have had some reduction in the cell numbers such as gen2 reducing from 400 to 200 or your gen1 losing the main cat's usually continue to pass the emissions tests years later.
