Easy way to reduce your insurance......

Just renewed my insurance with ClassicLine over the phone, and just before proceeding with their quote, I thought I'd just check
the difference if I added the Mrs as well. I'd heard that a saving could be possible, but considered it was a myth as it didn't seem
to be logical.

Given the fact that she's never once driven it in the last 10 years, and it's unlikely that she ever will, I was chuffed I'd asked the
question as the price went down from £174 to £161 [:D]

Hardly life changing, but every little helps and I thought worth sharing.

Good effort !

Yes, I noticed a similar thing with my Daily driver BMW insurance a couple of years ago, lowest price was Fully Comp with the Mrs as named driver vs just me for 3rd Party Fire & theft.

Speaking to my Brother about this who has been involved in various IT projects for both the DVLA and Churchill its to do with algorithmns and the fact that you have the car fully insured and used by your spouse is indicative that you're more likely to drive it sensibly/ family usage and care about damaging it.

One of the great things with a "proper" insurance broker is that they can discuss options like this with you. You don't get that sort of service from the TV-advertised insurance giants, let alone the benefits of a classic policy.

Does anyone here still have insurance through a policy with no agreed-value, choice of repairer, salvage buy-back, etc.? If you do, please think about it when you look at the book values now....[]

Yes, that's me. Who can you recommend who offers all these things, for a guy leaving the car on the streets of East London and uses it as his only vehicle? The only people I can find who will cover me are the mainstream people, who don't have the luxuries you mention. Admittedly I haven't looked around for a year or so, but if you had anyone to suggest then I'll happily give them a call next time 'round.

(I do recall dropping one specialist broker a line a couple of years back and he was delightful, discussed all the options and details, and came out with a quote of more than two grand. Given that the screen-scrapers were offering cover for around a tenth of that I politely declined ... )

Oli.

I think Paul was referring to what the book values are via trader standards, and are what the insurance companies will most likely use. They are quite laughable (their 'rough' price for a running Turbo will not even buy an engine, and probably only just a bridge spoiler hatch...). Their 'good' price would barely buy a roadworthy S2.

Saying that, one can always write off the car if the worst was to happen (and then buy the car back to have it repaired) but I can appreciate that this option will not appeal to everyone.

Back on topic, for a number of polices, adding your wife/family member as an extra member on the policy. There are no hard or fast rules. Recently, someone on a modern car told me that they obtained a cheaper quote from saying their car was parked on a street as opposed to a garage etc. Sure enough, it has worked for me in some cases. I guess there are no hard or fast rules for insuring a car. Area however is one thing I have seen dramatically increase the price of a policy over most other variables.

There is no way I'm going to get married just to reduce my insurance premiums, I would rather continue to pay through the nose! [8|]

You you have an option Fred? Is there a queue?[;)]
