eBay and Porsch-apart SSI's

Got the SSI's I bought on eBay from Simon Butterworth at Porsch-apart through this morning. The original sale page is here, description reads: A used pair of stainless steel Heat Exchangers form a 3.0 SC. These do not look very old (see picture) BUT one flange to the head is very slightly bent.

Sounds OK I thought, get a look at the bend and see how bad it is. So I emailed him and asked for a better pic. I received this one showing the merest of bends in the pipe:

Anyway, bid for them and won them. Also won a stainless back box with a hole on one weld, can fix no problem. Anyway, as I say, they arrived this morning, so I unpack them and, first of all, the 'bent flange' looks like this from the other side:

The pipe has had a good slap at some stage and there are a few other bends as it runs under the cover - you can see the dents and a few cracks in the casing. Have to be honest, this on it's own wouldn't be the end of the world, but then there's this in one of the pipes!

Have emailed him and asked how he can sell this item with this sort of damage without adding it to the description. Will file a complaint through Paypal and talk to eBay also. Can't be arsed leaving negative feedback as that's only ever tit-for-tat leading to huge stress. I kept my end of the deal so why should I get negative on it.

To me the pipe is scrap as the cost of repair would well outweigh the cost of replacement. I mean, do people really think we won't notice stuff like this?! []

Sorry to see that John, (I was going to bid on those, but decided against it, as Im a bit skint at the moment - looks like I had a lucky escape)

People shouldn't be able to get away with things like this, send copies of the photos to 911 porsche world as they have been singing porsch-apart's praises' in several recent features - people need to be informed about bad service as well as good.

I hope you can source another pipe for not too much dosh.

That's bad news.

However, I have bought a few items from Porschapart, via e.bay, and been generally pleased.

Cheers buddy, all part of life's rich tapestry.

A few people I trust say (like Mike) that Simon B is a good guy but is this damage obvious or what?

Will sort it one way or the other, watch this space [;)]

John,

Rough deal - they are very poor and definitely more than just a little bent.

Ebay has this £500 protection policy - as you are Mr. Ebay, what does this do (if anything) for you ?

Also, to be fair, have you spoken to Simon (I don't know him, but would be interested to hear what he has to say on the trade).

See you Saturday at Weltmeister - will be coming through Banbury on A422 to meet the A43 if you are there around 8:30.

Trading Standards .... not as described ..... blah blah blah. Don't see why this would not apply just because the purchase was via eBay.

Ian.

That is rotten surprise. I would be a bit upset too. Looking at your photos and his photos there isn't an identifying mark to indicate that they are even the advertised item?.

I reckon you'll get your money back or a replacement though. You damn well should do if this Guy wants to have a future on ebay selling porcshe parts.

RESPONCE FROM PORSCH APART LTD

John has been offered a full refund on these items as per our policy. We did not know about the problem until we were told about this forum by somebody else. John has not contacted us. We admit fault as these had been placed flat on the floor for our guy to photograph. We are only human, a mistake has been made. We are out to please our customers but we have not been given any opertunity to correct the situation. A full refund is on offer if John wishes to take us up on it.

Simon Butterworth

as per your description of "slightly bent" vesres what John actually got... based on you response, it is great to hear that are providing John with a full refund but I can only guess you are new to either the ebay selling (cleaning only the picture side of an item ?) or the Porsche parts business to have made this error (that will be the slightly bent, again!) ......

Good to see you here Simon although under slightly pressured circumstances , as you know lots of us buy Parts from you including me and have only ever had good service. John and you can resolve your problem now which I'm sure is an oversight and nothing more, responding quickly to this issue will only enhance your reputation as you are seen to stand by your product and services.
We never indiscriminately malign traders, it just not in anyones interest but of course we stand by our buddies when there is a problem. Thanks for posting and as I said such a quick positive response will only enhance your reputation.

Simon, have had your email thanks, but it's not true to say that I didn't contact you, you had the photos in your inbox at 1pm yesterday. Anyway, have responded to your mail and won't argue about it in public. If it gets sorted out will post the positive results here for all to see, vice versa likewise.

Thanks for all the support by the way guys [;)]

Indeed those trusted friends were dead right, Simon is a good guy and he has sorted this out for me with knobs on.

I asked him to refund me 50% of the cost of the heat exchangers as the rest were all as described and genuinely pukka. He did this readily and has also allowed me to keep hold of the bent one to see what we can do with it - could possibly repair but will have to try and get some of the pipework for an easy transplant. If not then a £180 refund goes a long way towards the cost of a new one from Pelican (currently £250 approx).

So big thumbs up from me for Porsch-apart and hope to deal with them again in the future. Here's to a slightly more straightforward deal next time [;)]

Good news John, and well done to Porsch-apart thats the kind of customer service we like to hear about[:D][:D][:D] I will certainly give them a call when I need some more bits.

I'd just like to add that Porshe-apart have always served me well; so this is more negligence than deliberate. Glad to hear they have sorted.
