ebay bargain

Blimey! There's got to be more to the story than that. £4k for a 968 with no problems listed??????? [&o]

I didnt HPI it, but I talked to Simon about it when it was listed on PH a couple of months ago (at £6,000). It appears to be a good honest car. I suspect that it failed to sell because his original asking price was too low - had it been £9,000 then itd have sold in a week or two. You have to consider the buying profile too: very few true frontrunner enthusiasts buy 968s now, with most CSs being bought by people folling the pack with more money than sense. Not being a CS didnt help it either, despite being a mechanically identical Sport... If Id relaised that I could have had it for under £4,250, then Id have found the time to go down and see it!

They are finding themselves in a narrowing market where only particular models will retain their value, you sometimes see Coupe Tips under £5k at dealers now as there is very little market for a great-handling auto...if you want easy driving buy a Boxster for similar money...if you want the status of a Porsche...buy a Boxster for similar money...if you want a track tool buy a 944 Turbo for similar money. On the flipside, if they keep going down then a Coupe Tip could be the ideal car for me when my turbo waves the white flag!

Ditto for sure me to ! I remember that car from Piston Heads months ago. It was cheap but I ummed and arred because I wasnt happy with a couple of answers i got to questions and also re the drilled airbox , I thought if its standard why have holes drilled all accross the front of it and with the large holes in the airbox ,has the engine been properly protected. My thoughts may have been without foundation but I remember beign a bit weary instinct and all that. I ummed and arred for a while re viewing then it was alledgedly sold. It was 5,000 ono at the time I think. I always wonder with a car like that how come it was defo sold them back up for sale a few months later but who knows ! Hopefully a decent chap/chappess got a good buy. Mas

From a previous discussion that we had a while back I'm in agreementr with the opinion that cheap Boxster prices are also driving down '68 prices, you can pick up an early Boxster for around the same money, and we have to remember that the demographic shifts every 10 years so the childhood affordable Porsche for the mid 20-30's is now more likely to be a Boxster rather than a 968. Still find it unbelieveable though that they have bottomed out so quickly [&:]

When I got my geo set up done on the 944 the owner at the garage was telling me that they have a few regular customers with old Boxters - some not that old - and he's gob smacked at how rusty they are underneath. He's had two in he's refused to work on as he said fittings, brackets and things are so rotten he's worried he'd break something if he touched it! Not what you'd expect from a Porker!

I don't know, the Boxster was a mass-produced car so might well be no different to anything else once it ages. The amount of complicated systems on the car do mean it could be a lot more expensive to run as it gets older so a £5K Boxster might be more of a money-pit than a £5K 944.

At that price they are a bargain. I may well have gone the 968 sport route if a decent one could have been had for under £5k a year ago. But I would have missed the booooost.

Just seen this on PH: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2933616.htm This won't help 968 Sport prices. Given its source, you have to assume its not **** and at £7k looks like a steal

Certainly looks very nice in the pics [:)] However, as he is selling it as a rolling project, I would guess it looks a lot scruffier in the flesh Definately worth a punt

Just on the subject of frontrunner marketplace, anybody else noticed how quick Turbo S cars seem to sell now???I have been watching on pistonheads they get snapped up very quickly...(My race car Turbo S sold very quickly). Also some of them have not been cheap.

Anything air cooled with CS or RS is now silly money A mate had a very nice 993 RS turbo with lots of tuning/bits done and has just sold it some two years later for 20K above what he paid and he is a 12 trackdays a year chap and quick so it was well ragged but well maintained He spent the difference on a 968 CS as he was getting scared of wrecking the 911 on track and although impressed with my 944T for some reason couldnt invest in one and has just spent a load on it with Promax yet a well sorted and tuned 944T is more than a match for a 968 CS. To summarise - I dont know why perceptions are as they are but............c`est la vie
