With cheap ebay cars crica £250

What's the good and bad to look for and what's the expensive bits to put right?

Look out for rot especially the sills and back arches... replacement panels are pricey enough
The gearbox pinion bearings complain a bit but they will whine for years
The interior suffers from split seats and cracked dashboards - seats can be refurbed but the dash is not easy to come by. If you ignore that this has happened - you will just forget its there [;)]
Engine wise - one word "Bulletproof" but the Turbo and "S" models need to have a good history behind them otherwise it will cost you a kings ransom to put right. The tappets need adjusting and the timing belt needs changed but this is a very easy job as there is loads of room.
Usual look at springs/shocks/bushings and make sure they are ok...! If they are knackered then they are very easy got..!

If you get one for £250 then be prepared to spend a bit and get your hands dirty to get it into a good useable shape [;)]

I did see a nice one for £1000 in white, i must admit I am interested in one of these. My Dad will prob buy one but I will be just as keen to get involved. My Dad is talking about it more. So now to show him some..and push him over the edge and he will buy one......

At that price I look at them as Spares parts..
But even at that Price they're Cheap!
One sold Last week for £82!...But I couldn't Transport it from Wales!

I paid £155 for mine nearly 2 years ago as a runner with 6 months T&T, drove it for a few weeks, then started a 15 month rebuild, only stands me at about £600, and that was including £200 to have two replacements wings tidied up and resprayed.

Parts/panels can be expensive if you are buing new, but the reason mine took so long to get back on the road was that I was in no rush so just picked parts up from ebay or scrapyards when they came up in good enough condition.
The brake system only cost me £72 to replace everything, that was for shoes, pads, spring kit, tensioners, rear cylinder, all new brake pipe and pipe ends, calipers and flexi's were good so didn't any work.

Depends really on what level of finish you want I guess, mine is a daily drive, and will need a respray to get it looking better, but that'll be done sometime this summer I hope. but you could very easily spend £1000's on it, and risk not getting anywhere near yoou money, time and effort.
They are and for a while yet will be a cheap buy, but they are great value for money IMO.

Mark.
