ECU failures 924 S

Greetings ladies and Gents
I had a diagnostic check at a Bosch service centre for reliability (startiing/running) problems and apart from a faulty pin connector/ contact they came up with some failures on the ECU with respect to fuel and air flow (4% and 8%). Although this does not sound much they said it might get worse with time and I thought I would have the unit repaired to remove any more chances of further failures.
I wonder if others have had ECU failures and how critical is a difference of 4-8%.
Someone suggested that I could wait for the ECU to fail again before getting it repaired but it is difficult driving a car which can go at any time and does not inspire confidence !

Thank you to both Nouveau and random hero

I decided to get mine repaired (£327) since I was advised not to have a different ECU in case it had further unknown faults.

Unbeknown to me some previous owner had fitted a "soup chip"" for extra performance to the ECU which could possibly have given rise to the starting problems.Lets hope that these will be sorted now.

Wow.. That's quite expensive...But with no other Problems It's worth it!.....was the "Chip" still in?

Yes, the chip was still in and it was replaced with the standard chip.
I decided to get the ECU repaired as it was on its way out and could have gone in a weeks time or a couple of years but the important thing is that it did not inspire confidence driving a car knowing that it will fail at any time. At least the repaired one is guaranteed for a year !

On the subject of chips I came across an article in the NY Times on the net, that hacking the computer of a honda civic achieved 0-60 in 3 seconds flat !!! Who needs a GT3 !!

Cheers
