ECU Transfer

steves944

New member
I have a 944 which is misfiring and won't idle.

I have put a new MAF, new throttle switch, checked every hose and joint for airleaks.

I have a spare ecu/dmu off another same year same car , if I transfer over will it be a straight substitution or are they coded for each car?

THanks

The DME's are matched to the AFM (MAF). If the AFM is from the same model as the car i.e. early or late dash it should be fine.

Thanks that's good. Yes they are both '86 oval dash 8V.

I am doing this in the hope its going to sort the problem as I have tried the normal fixes without success.

The car is fine when running under load but lacking power, but will not tick over and runs rubbish and misfires if I just rev it when standing still.

I would be looking at the ignition system and don't assume that cos theres a spark when you pull a plug out of the block its working fine! Guess how long it took me to find my ignition problem :D.

Forgot to mention I have ordered a brand new set of leads plus dis cap plus rotor arm

Will ckeck LT side also.

What was your prob in the end??

Dizzy cap (a relatively new one too) oh and before that leads! IMO your doing the right thing in replacing the lot in one go.
