Potentially 25bhp extra 2 hours to do & £399 + VAT End result greater and smoother performance or when not being driven hard greater mpg and smoother power delivery through out the rev range.

Anyone ever gone up this route and if so was it as good as the claims made [&o]

Following info arrived after my posting so lets start again guys [:D]

Marcus since my posting the following email arrived and it seems the cost factor is rising quicker than the bhp :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: No longer £399 + VAT see below:-

"The performance upgrades to your Porsche 987's, we can offer you the following upgrades to enhance your already quick car: -"

Porsche 987 ecu upgrade including before and after dyno runs - £650.00 + Vat = £763.75

Porsche 987 performance exhaust system (cat back) cats not included supplied and fitted - £1290.00 + vat = £1515.75
Fitting of exhaust system - £150.00 + vat = £176.25

Porsche 987 performance panel filter supplied and fitted 120.00 + Vat = £141.00

"you should expect to see gains or around 30-35bhp and 40-50nm of torque, I hope this helps"

Though it might be heresy to say the name of another manufacturer in this hallowed forum ;

I know of Paramount through a Jaguar Speedtrial day recently (Woodbridge Airfield, 14 July) where their work was well represented by some impressive results. One of their modified cars (XKR coupe <2005) that took fastest car at just over 162mph (certified) on the day. I understand that represented a fairly comprehensive workover though, more than just ECU.

I'd certainly give them a recommendation.

The claims are probably exagerated. Not that I think these gains are impossible on an S (well, maybe nearer 15-20bhp), just that if it was that readily available with all the other advantages then do you not think that Porsche may have tuned the engine in this manner? I would believe that they might be able to do a few bits to improve one facet of performance (eg increase fuelling at the expense of economy) but not all together.

During the sorting out of my 2.7 for racing we tinkered with various things and the answer is that you need to adjust a variety of variables to get the overall improvements that we saw. Thus simply changing ignition timing and fuelling will not help unless you improve the exhausting of gases and the ability of the engine to breathe air in. These latter two are inhibited by the requirements to meet emission legislation and acceptable noise limits in a road car.

By all means get the car checked on a rolling road before and after these mods and report back to us all! But then also go and get a better exhaust manifold (the std Porsche one is a cr*ppy compromise on cost), some sports cats and a better exhaust system.... And report back for a second time!

My guess? You'll get the odd extra horsepower from the new chipping, but then some significant improvement after the rest of the mods.

Good luck!
Marcus

DMS and other claim 305bhp on a 280bhp 987S, so no reason to believe its not achieveable. Given some of the results for chip tunings and ehaust mods on the Cayman (see caymanclub website) i've no doubt reputable tuning companies can achieve those sort of gains.

Of course 25bhp at the crank is about 15bhp at the wheels - not that noticeable when you have a reasonable number of ponies to start with.

And of course you invalidate your warranty [:'(]
