Edged out by a Cayman S?!

Ok, so just had a friendly race (on private track of course)

Rolling start from around 60mph to around 120mph.. The Cayman S (2008 plate) and I were dead level until near the end when he began to edge away.

Mine is a 2000 (so much much older) Carrera 2 Tiptronic 3.4

So I guess what i am asking is: Is this result to be expected or was his tuned? Or is my car ill?

Thanks in advance all

Sam

Sounds about right,

Cayman S 1350kg 320bhp 0-100 11.4s (heavier 1375kg but quicker for a PDK version with Sport Chrono 10.9s, also far easier to do)

911 3.4 Tip 1365kg 300bhp 0-100 13.0s

Things have moved on a bit. To be honest I'm surprised he only pulled away near the end.

Depressingly, Caymans are quick! As Clarkson said, the introduction of the Cayman by Porsche meant that the margins between the 911/Cayman/Boxter were that much narrower. I hate to admit it but it seems as though he might be right about something for once! [:D]

Were you both approaching a corner towards the end? If so I think that the mid-engined car would feel a bit more 'safe' at the higher speed than the 911! I was loaned a Cayman S for a long weekend by my OPC while my 996 was being looked at. I drove it about 300 miles up through mid Wales. I have to say that it certainly inspired confidence in the corners. My wife also felt comfortable driving it! Now that's saying something!
