Edinburgh Club Night - Venue Change Needed?

GreigM

Over the last few months it has become apparent to many members that the Hawes Inn maybe isn't the best place for the Edinburgh Club Night - limited parking, poor food and generally poor service and attitude by staff, so should we look for another venue?

Suggestions? The previous Crammond Brig was a nice venue, and had parking but maybe struggled to cope with high numbers - do we want to go back there? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

If someone could raise it at meeting on Thursday I would appreciate it.

Crammond Brig was OK, but the numbers for this meet keep getting bigger, and I think we might struggle there now. I'm not as against the Hawes as some, but parking is an issue.

Whats Norton House like these days? ... isn't that where we used to meet?

Norton House is lovely now. It was refurbished recently. They have a room that has similar seating arrangements to the Sherbrooke. The food is good too, albeit more pricey than the Hawes. A small Pinot Grigio will knock you back ÂŁ6.00 - but it is a fine bottle!

Mr Coulthards DAKOTA in South Queensferry should be opening soon. It might be a nice change to visit there and further line the rich b*stards pocket!

See you Thursday.

The Dakota on the M8 has certainly had some decent reviews. Might be an idea.

my 2p worth ...

Hawes - parking not an issue for me cos I park miles away from the you boxster / cayman rif raf[;)] Not a great fan of the access to the Hawes especially when they close the high st at short notice and do not tell anyone!! []
However Hawes has grown on me and I for one belive the service is ok albeit it changed recently when they had to chase some people up for payment for food and someone even bought food and 2 bottles of wine and did not pay ( alledgedly m'lud)...seems they may have a point...remember we only go one night a month and spend ÂŁ100 to ÂŁ150 .. not exactly serious revenue and even worse if some do not pay....[;)]

Crammond Brig - access is easy, not as nice as it was however if we booked as we do at Hawes perhaps they could accomodate bigger crowd .. access easy even through the roadworks.

Norton House... bring back the Gathering ... pinot grigo [8D]?? Car parking not an issue ???

Dakota .. if it it time for a change ....why not?? Not to keen on giving DC any money though !!

Any nice places on the North side of the bridge ...Dunfermline ?

cheers
Kevin

Don't think it is fair asking Jane to do the catering.....[:D][:D],and we couldn't all fit into the hot tub

I was not drinking the night in question re the bottles of wine, in fact, don't think that I even managed that particular evening.

As for the hot tub we have, it seats seven Brian, so if we did it in relays then we could maybe manage it [8D]

:ROFLMAO: You just cannot take the pace, yes you got a taxi home [8D]

I am fine today, don't know why [;)]

Hot tub and irn bru, great for a hangover cure [:D]

There is always the Elizabethan in Dunfermline. Not been there in years, but LBD may know if this would perhaps be suitable? Just a thought [;)]

Regarding the unpaid bill. After some investigation I believe that it may not have been club members, however the hotel assumed that because the involved people were sitting in the same area they assumed they were part of the club. Either way, it is the hotels responsibility to ensure the bill is paid by their customers and they should not accost uninvolved customers, regardless if they are part of the PCGB crowd or not.

The fact being only a few people were drinking at all that night, and even fewer drinking wine, and the facts don't add up with the club members present.

I now understand a PCGB member offered to pay the outstanding bill in an attempt to resolve the situation and was not treated too well by the Hawes manager. Seems a wee bit aggressive / unapproachable. Not worth the hassle.

Consensus last week was to try Dakota .. expected to open in March .. it is a wee bit more expensive than Hawes ....but that is to be expected looking at it ....from the road anyway !!

Hi

Yasmin is meeting someone from the Dakota today for lunch (probably Coulthard if I know Yasmin [:D] ) and she was asking if she should mention the PCGB meeting to them?

Obviously too late for her to mention it today, but she asked me to ask if she should mention it.

Are you following all this [:)]?

she can ask what their reaction would be...it really all depends how busy the place is and if we will all get in. I think we may try a couple of venues over the summer to see what's best.
