Eeeek Cow !

Almost hit a cow this evening. Over the moor and on a nice A road a cow decided walk into and stand in the middle of the road just after a sweeping left !

First 'moment' in the 3.2 and it behaved well, I locked the left hand front for a second but kept everything smooth and managed to go to the right without hitting anything (Cow just stood and stared).

Would have been nice to have ABS but was impressed how the car was stable in an emergency, not quite the evil beast of legend. Maybe its because while quite quick, it was still well within the cars limits.

Anyway, just had to share that, and the cow is safely back in the field.

Glad you missed it too!

It's annoying when the front wheel that has no weight on it locks. Better to brake in a straight line but on the road this is not always possible. Like most cars without abs, a little more rear brake bias would be nice.

These cars behave fine really. The only thing they don't like is lifting off the throttle at high rpm without the steering wheel pointing straight ahead [:-]

Noticed last night that the A82 to Glen Coe now has an illuminated red triangle flashing "high risk of deer" sign. I switched on as I approached (and I had seen a deer about 2 miles before). Whether or not it's actually cleverly looking for deer near the road I don't know - there were none actually on the road at the point where the sign was.

But a deer (huge great stag) has been my most testing "moment" in my 993 - back in the spring of this year. Like your cow it just stood there looking at me. Fortunately (for us both) it took a couple of paces just at the last second. Because I don't think I'd have quite stopped - taught me a lesson. But was impressed by how stable the car was ABSing down from a very high speed.

Thing is braking while cornering, with no weight on the inside front wheel, I actually got more braking done while it was locked, keeping the pressure on the other three wheel cylinders (just expensive in rubber).

While I was nowhere near 'maximum effort' in the bend, I did lift off the accelerator then to the brakes and the back end was planted. Need to actually get to a track next year (please lets have some sun !) and learn its habits in extremis.

Quite scary though, got a rear subframe from a car that had hit a horse. Both front passengers crushed to death, these things are heavy !
