Electric Seats - don't let the wife use them!!

My electric seats were working perfectly.....until that is my wife decided to adjust her seat. The seat reached the top of its travel and would then not go down. The adjustment concerned in the one which moves the back of the seat section up and down. If I press the button I can hear the motor trying to push further up but it will not move the seat down at all. (There is no noise from the motor even trying). All other seat functions are working.

I have checked all the fuses etc so now thinking to try the switch unit or the motor its self. Anyone with any ideas / experience?

Also just for clarification my wife has not been back in the car and is now not allowed to touch any part of it!!!!

Yet again thanks in advance for the help. (I have new bonnet struts and a new seal currently in the mail thanks to everyone who helped the last time!!).

Frazer,
Your wife is too light, you need someone heavier in the seat to make it go down.

Seriously, it must be something simple like the switch or a connection because it's the same motor, run in reverse, for the downward movement. Fact that you can't hear the motor trying to work makes me think it can't be the worm drive.

Try fiddling with the switch and the wiring.

yep same here only it was the step-son. Fiddled around with it and didn't even tell me it was jammed Grrr
I left it like that for a year then one day I decided to have a go at it and managed to free it somehow. Can't remember how now but I didn't dismantle it .

Knowing me I probably fiddled with it for a while... lost patience and then thumped it whilst operating the down switch
