ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER

The new £ 139 ETS electric supercharger that is being adversised on the ebay Porsche 944 tuning pages is it any good? has anybody fitted one yet, the advert answers most of the general questions but does it work for an advertised 20bhp increase or is it a waste of money. Any advice would be valuable before I consider a purchase. Colin

I think I saw this too. I'm no expert but I fail to see how a fan powered by 12v is going to make a jot of difference to air induction. If it did then nobody would both would turbo chargers and super chargers. Save your money.
 
This has raised a few laughs on other car forums I frequent.

The general consensus is it's a complete waste of money!

That would be my point of view, though I do not know any of us who will admit to buying one [;)]

The amount of air that our large engines suck through the engine normally is far greater than a small electric fan could ever hope to push through. In all probability the fan blades will actually cause an obstruction. Even if the fan does all that it says and provides 2.5psi of boost then your car would run lean as we do not have a Mass Air Flow or MAP sensor to compensate for the extra air. We have a simple airflow meter (AFM) flap which is already at maximum deflection when the car is at full throttle.

I would love to see someone buy one then do a before and after Dyno test before getting their money back from the vendor under their cast iron guarantee [:D]
 
Have a good google around, they don't have much good press and seem to act more as an obstruction to airflow. If you look at the picture of the fans they bear a remarkable similarity to fans sold to get air into the cabin of boats. I am no expert in these things but a little plastic fan does not compare to a big metal bladed turbocharger or a supercharger just as an item of engineering.
 
Put it this way - if it was this easy then why do manufactures go to the trouble of designing complicated exhaust driven turbo charging and crank driven supercharging systems. I'm sure engine designers around the world are not looking at this product and thinking "Doh, I didn't think about that"!!
 
I know what its for now... Its only for real cars ... like the Saxo, Corsa, and 106 Pugs... It has max effect when used with the 1 litre variants of these models. The car needs to have the "Tat Factor" with go faster mods from Halfords and the "Car Care" section of B&Q. It supposedly boosts horsepower from 60bhp to a nice 460bhp if your burberry cap is on sideways.....[:D]

 
I can let you all in on a little secret as it's Christmas. I have a new tuning system (the Porsche Intake Tuning Strategy) which is the result of literaly thousands of seconds of R&D, and over the following few posts I will explain the components required.
Firstly, ignore the adverts for electric superchargers, they're nothing more than leaf blowers and are totally insufficent. Get yourself the Revlon 9092U Retro California Cream Hair Dryer, set it to max and plumb it into the intake. Do not be tempted to power it off an inverter, as this will sap precious horsepower, always use a long extension cord.

We've all seen the resistor mod on eBay. The problem with this is that it simply doesn't go far enough. Use much larger resistors, as bigger = more power. Use as many as you can and bolt them to the chassis, the downside is the car may become too hot to touch after a long drive (which is naturally dependent upon the length of the power cord used).

Finaly, the piece de resistance and what makes the PITS tuning strategy unique is plumbing in a bottle of aerated bovine lacteal secretion into the fuel rail. The important ingredient is the propellant used, Nitrous Oxide. Be sure to put two rennies in with each tank full of fuel.
