Electric window misbehaviour

Hi,

My electric windows misbehave sometimes... if I park up and lock the car, sometimes when I return the driver's window has lowered itself to the "putting the roof down" height, and once the passenger's window, but normally the driver's. This is rather disconcerting due to security issues and also if raining the interior gets wet!

Any ideas? I guess it's a faulty microswitch somewhere, but where? Could it be a roof microswitch thinking I want to lower the roof? But why only lower one window, not both?

Thanks

Jonathan

This is a known issue with 996s and Boxsters.
A module needs replacing I have been told. Off to your local OPC or Independant I'm afraid...

For future reference, JZ Machtech suggest it's either the roof switch or the door lock mechanism, and they'll know which when they get a chance to have a look at it.

Anyone else had this? (Even better: Anyone else know it is not this....?)

It's happened to me twice in five years. Both times at home in the car port. I've also had the alarm go off two or three times for no apparent reason.

As it has been so infrequent I've never bothered to follow it up.

JCB..

Hi Jonathan
I had a similar problem with my 2001 S, but both windows would mysteriously drop when parked up and locked - on my return they would both be down.
After a lot of testing and hassle, my OPC traced the fault to an electronic unit which is situated in the left hand door. Apparently, they can sometimes fail (water ingress?) which causes the electrical gremlins. Mine was sorted out by the OPC and the unit replaced, and after that the windows are fine again.
It may be that this is the problem with yours - hope this helps.

That's the problem I have heard of. Some people staying at the same place as us at last years Le Mans had the same problem.

Hi Rob

Thanks for that, have had water ingress problems in the passenger door in the past. Time to get the soldering iron out I think and check out this control box.
