electric window motor troubleshooting

passenger door window doesnt go up/down
i swapped the working switch from the drivers side and still no joy

so i took the panel off and there doesnt seem to be any power going to the window motor (put a voltmeter on the wire attached to the motor) and the winding mechanism looks a bit rusty like it hasnt worked for a while.

has anyone else had a similar problem? if so, how did you resolve it?

thanks for any advice,

Check the wiring in the rubber sleeve by the door hinges. As it's spent many years flexing with the door opening there is a a fair chance it has split or shorted

If this is an early 944, then it takes some time to get your head around the wiring! The feed for the passemger door is via the switch on the drivers door - so, it could be the switch on the drivers side at fault, or, as suggested the wiring to either door.

There is also a connected in front of the drivers door which is not polarised - if this is connected back to front after work on the drivers door, the passenger door window doesn't work - though it frequently isn't noticed at the time... I have seen several extra "power feed wires" to the passenger door by people being caught out by this system.

Remember one thing that complicates this is the feature that allows the windows to be wound down with the ignition off, but doors open.

HTH,

Tref.

thanks. currently there is only one switch working - on the drivers side (is driving the missus mad!).
but the passenger switch on the drivers side currently doesnt have the two little rocker arms in it.

do i need to put them in to complete the circuit? is that why there is no power to the passenger
window motor?

if so, where can i get these little rocker arms from?

I guess I got to buy a new switch from somewhere

I need the little rockers at the bottom of this page http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/elect-20.htm#switch-test
