Electric window problem

Hi all,

My drivers side electric window has developed a fault. If you the door handle to open the door the window will drop 3/4" as it should. However, when the handle is released it goes up again. It should remain dropped until the door is shut. This obviously causes problems when shutting the door as the window hits the rubber seal.

The microswitch seems ok... Is it a sensor?

Any ideas?
Steve

It sounds like it is a problem with one of the internal switches in the door lock assembly. The microswitch in the door handle is obviously working OK, because the window drops, but the switch inside the door lock which signals that the lock is released (door open) is not working.

An OPC or good indy with a PST2/PIWIS tester will be able to do a diagnostic check to read the switch outputs. If it is one of the internal switches in the door lock, you have to replace the whole lock assembly - depending on model year, £85-130 for the part.

If you are anywhere near me, I'd be happy to do a diagnostic check for you.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the response and my apologies for the delayed reply... I have just moved house and completely wrapped up in decorating. The window issue appeared to have resolved itself all for about a week and now started again, so I can only assume that something is on it's way out... I found an article on the net about a similar problem with the Boxster 'Windows acting erratically' Link:.http://www.986faq.com/10-0/problems.asp However, I am going to see Tony Wright (Wrighttune) first thing tomorrow morning to get my car serviced and to replace a noisy lower control arm.. I'll have a word with him and see what he thinks about the window situation. I'll then be working in the Maidenhead office, so not far from you. If your around in the afternoon and want to check out the car that will great.

All the best,
Steve

Hi Steve

I am around tomorrow afternoon - I work in Littlewick Green, so you would be welcome to come along. However, if you are at Tony's in the morning he could do it for you I'm sure, and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I have to speak to him this afternoon, so I'll mention it to him.

If you do want to come along anytime, email me and I'll give you my phone numbers.
