the other day, i returned to my car and the driver's window was down halfway even though i had checked earlier the doors were locked and windows were up... this is the first time it has happened but i've read on other forums this may be a fault with the microswitch in the door... what i did was lower them until i heard a click and then raised them until they clicked to see if this would reset the windows... if it is the microswitch, is it easy to replace and any detailed instructions would be helpful

There is a TSB which refers to this problem on cars prior to MY1999 which might explain what's happening on your car. It says this:
Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996)
Model Year:
As of 1999 (X)
Concern:
Door window opens 100 to 150 mm after closing the door.
Information: A modified power window motor is installed in production to prevent the driver or passenger window
from lowering by itself after closing the door. The production change became effective December 21,
1998, from the following Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs):
99 XXS 62 5048 Coupe
99 2XS 65 3533 Cabriolet
A customer complaint of "Door window opens by itself" can be addressed (on a vehicle produced prior
to the above VINs) by installing a new type power window motor.
Important notes:
- Do not replace the complete power window unit! (regulator)
- Only replace the window motor on the side demonstrating the problem!
I'll email you a copy of the whole TSB.

that's exactly what it did as per tsb... its only done it once so i'll see what happens... thanks
