Electric windows - Boxster S

When I put the roof down on my 2000 Boxster the windows open about an inch, however when the operation is complete or you put the roof up the windows stay down by this amount. I imagine the windows are supposed to go back to the closed position on both operations. Can anyone confirm if this is the case and if possible what the cause is. May be something as simple as a relay.
Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi I have a 2001 and the window only goes down slightly when I pull the hood release handle down above my head.

The window stays in this position unless I put the windows completely. When I put the roof back up and close the HRH the windows close shut.

When you pull the handle down what do your windows do?

Nope 986 and 987 differ

Assuming windows up (drop is 2-3 inches):

Opening roof:

987 windows drop then return when roof fully retracted.

986 windows drop and remain dropped after roof fully retracted.

Closing roof:

986 & 987 windows drop then return when roof latched shut.

On the 986, with windows returning to close position, does that rely on the windows being fully closed when starting to close the roof.

Quite often my operation would be to open the roof (with windows dropping the 2-3 inches as they should), then close the roof again with windows still in their dropped position. In that operation, the windows do not close after roof is closed.

I believe the normal 986 operation will close the windows after the roof is closed regardless of there position prior to closure.

The 987 differs here again as if they are open they will remain open.
