electric windows

On my '83 944 this morning neither of my front electric windows would work from either switch, I changed the fuse which made no difference. I'd appreciate any ideas on what I should do next.

On the oval dash cars they don't work at all if one switch is dodgy. Take them out and (carefully!) open them up and clean the contacts.

I have (carefully) cleaned the contacts on all three switches (2 on drivers side, 1 on passenger side) and unfortunately still no power to the windows. Any suggestions as to what to do next?
Steve

Behind the fusebox is a circular set of earth wires, which can get wet or dirty. On my one the window eartrh wire even came off, so this may be worth while checking.

But if the failure is mechanical they can do, unlikely though for both sides to fall apart at the same time. But that doesnt help this guy...Haynes of course absolutely useless. The last round dash I had only had drivers side working. Electrician required I think...
