Electric Windows

After being with a garage and gearbox specialist in the Midlands, my car was finally due back after 2 months for a rear diff rebuild on Saturday due to a rebuild, however, I was told the battery was now dead and needed replacing - I put that down to (more) bad luck.

Mid morning, when the car should have been back with me, I was told that it wouldnt due to a problem with the drivers electric window. It goes up and down OK but the auto drop/lift function when the drivers door handle is touched now doesnt work.

[8|] I know the car has been sitting around for a couple of month but surely that shouldnt cause a battery to become faulty - it was fine when it went in.

[8|] Also, would replacing the battery or any other work being done cause the electric window function to stop working???

The car is still in with the Porsche specialist so if anyone else has any sinilar experiences and cures I would appreciate the feedback.

Thanks,

The 996 has a battery save function. If the car is unused for 10days all of the features operated with the keyfob are disabled. The car has to be opened with the actual key, and then after the ignition is switched on all of the remote features are re-established.

One of the side-effects is that sometimes the one touch operation of the windows resets, but after a couple of cycles of all the way down and up again it should reset to onetouch operation.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for that.

I only use the car occaisionally so its gone into battery-save mode a few times.

This problem is nothing to do with the remote or the window operation - both of these I am told are OK.

Normally, when you move the door handle a fraction the windows goes down a few mm to enable easy closing and opening of the door as the windows are frameless. This, apparently, is not working but the windows go up/down OK via the ew button.

Cheers,

Rob

Apparently it was a small microswitch in the door handle.

Should be back tomorrow (cant remember what it looks like its been so long!)

I had a similar problem on mine - there are 4 or 5 microswitches in the door handle mechanism, and one of them had stuck. Luckily you didn't have to have a new mechanism - I did, and it was £150!
