Electric Windows

New member
My Electric windows have stopped working, both sides. Because it's both sides I am assuming my problem isn't with the switches or the motors. None of my fuses are blown in the main fuse board.

Any ideas? Is there another fuse board that was added and hidden somewhere?

1982 SC.

Many Thanks,

James.

James you didn't mention whether or not you had checked the window relay. If this doesn't solve your problem then you will have to start taking the doors apart and testing components, I bet it's the relay.

Many thanks,

Any idea where that relay is? There are three relay's with the main fuse board and a couple in the engine bay (fuse board III? I think).

I solved a few electrical problems recently by simply cleaning the fuse contacts, including the wires coming down into the top of the box, which had got corroded over time. I expect your luggage compartment is immaculate and dry (!), but this is worth a look for a quick 'one spanner' fix.

Could be that the seals are woirn or the runners which the nylon regulator bushes run on are dirty. Worth checking easy to strip down and look at.

Try spraying "Back to Black" or any other silicon based stuff in the runners. I did that to my slow SC windows 20 odd years ago & they are still working!

Thanks all for your advice. Will try the silicone spray and if it does not improve, i will strip down and investigate.

Best reagrds

Hi all

I bought a can of silicone spray from Halfords, sprayed it down the window runners and hey presto ! the windows go up and down smoothly and at a good speed.

Thanks for all the advice

Regards Phil
