Electrical Gremlins

Just spent a frustrating cold day chasing no start issues. It started last time I ran the car with it stalling at the end of the day after playing around setting up the engine. Checked the plugs which showed over fueling issues which was to be expected as running in new engine with a base map and high fuel pressure.
Purchased new set of colder plugs which I installed this morning and car started but wouldnt idle or run without throttle. Then wouldnt fire but continue to turn over. Plugs clean. Fuel pump running (044 noisy !) and good fuel pressure on both gauges, 12v to both sides of coil and continuity from ecu. Checked all grounding points.
Last time we worked on car we wired in turbo waterpump into fuse relay so removed this in case we disturbed something still no joy.
Also strange noise comming from headlight when beam on not from the motor which why we thought of grounding issues.
There is a noise like an arcing sound that can be heard when you stop cranking but no arc can be seen even in a dark garage. So thinking might be a break in the speed/reference sensor cables causing a short as all the sensors are new.
DME has been swapped. Given up for the day but any thoughts are welcome.

Check all the contacts where the plug leads enter on the distributor cap especially the HT input, slight corrosion or the lead contacts not seating will cause it not to start.

Thanks will recheck connections, but all leads, cap and rotor arm are new. Going to use a scope to check reference wiring to ecu, pull the main loom from the ecu and power up the engine loom to check if a short on the main is causing it or on the engine loom. A lot of this wiring is 20+ years old with a lot of heat from the turbocharger doesn't help.
