Electrical issue on 2006 Cayman S

Hello everyone, got an electrical issue with 2006 Cayman S.

Basically the heated seat comes on even though its switched off, also the battery is draining power whilst im away working so i have to disconnect electrics under the passenger seat to prevent this.

Any help on this matter or wiring diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Stephen, Sorry I can't help with wiring diagrams or the source of your problem but I'm sure that there'll be a fuse for the heated seats and removing that would be much easier than disconnecting the under-seat electrics. As a first stop I'd check-out [or replace?] the switch for the heated seats to make sure that it's not shorting out. Jeff

The heated seats are controlled (and connected directly to) the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module. There are no fuses for it. I have heard of this recently from my indy friend. It was the control module itself which was at fault. It wasn't desperately expensive for the part, but it is a pain to change. A diagnostic check should show if there is a fault stored in the module. If you want a copy of the wiring driagram, drop me an email.

Yes Richard, that explains why I couldn't find a dedicated fuse when I looked in the Cayman Technical Articles [Cayman S 2007 Fuse Listing] after I'd posted. I presume that you're referring to the Front End Control Unit [Row C; F3 in the listing]. Do you have any idea what it and the Rear Control Unit [Row A; F3, F6 and F7] control? Jeff

No Jeff, not the Front Control Unit. On the wiring diagrams it is called the Network Control Unit, but on PIWIS it is called the Vehicle Electrical System. Here is part of the wiring diagram, and you can see the switch inputs, and heater outputs for the seats. I'll try to work on a summary of what each unit controls in the next few days, but I have to dash out now.

It is a little difficult to list what each Control Model does, because the inputs and outputs on each module aren't always related to the module itself. For example, the front lid release switch (input) is connected to the Vehicle Electrical System Network module, but the release solenoid (output) is connected to the Front control module. The gateway module seems to be the one which sorts out which control units talk to each other via the CAN bus. So I have listed the OUTPUTS on each module, so you can see where the devices get their supply from. FRONT CU All front lights, including Litronic adjusters Front luggage compartment lock Front luggage compartment light Hazard warning lights Horn Cooling fans (via a separate blower control module) NETWORK CU (Vehicle Electrical System) Fuel flap Seat heaters Wipers (inc rain sensors) Washers (screen and lights) Heated rear window Homelink REAR CU Alarm siren and horn Spoiler All rear lights Rear luggage compartment lights (Boxster convertible top) AIR CONDITIONING CU Compressor Air flaps Blower motor ALARM CU Door locks Ignition lock GATEWAY No outputs - signal/control/monitoring only AIRBAG POSIP CU All airbags Seat belt pre-tensioners SEAT MEMORY CU Seat motors PSM CU Control valves Pump PASM CU Shock absorbers TPMS RDK CU No outputs - signal/monitoring only DME CU Engine control outputs TIPTRONIC/PDK CU Gear control AWS CU (Auto weighing system) No outputs - signal/monitoring only PCM, NAVIGATION, PHONE CU Self explanatory, controlled through MOST loop PARK ASSISTANT CU No outputs - signal/monitoring only CORNERING LIGHTS CU Dynamic cornering lights (left/right control)

Many thanks Richard. Interesting and useful information. Hopefully, Kevan will pin this to the Cayman Technical Articles. Jeff

Sometimes things work well and then......but Icopied and pasted Richards info into the FAQ Section pinned to the top so it's available should anyone need it.

Hi Richard, thanks for your help. My email is stephenlwhittingham@hotmail.com Would appreciate the wiring diagram :)
