Electrical problem.

Right guys see if you can solve this.

Dipped beam LHS not working, when i switch on headlights bulb goes to main beam.

Main beam fuse is blown and wheni replace it eith it or the dipped beam fuse blows.

Nothing wrong with the bulbs.

Oh and the blue idiot light comes on with dipped beam and goes out on main beam..

Sounds like a Crystal Maze type puzzle!!

Sorry, no idea, so I'll blatantly hijack your thread...

I have an easier one: for a couple of weeks now when I turn off my ignition the stereo stays on if the lights are on. It goes off when I turn the lights off and it's fine when they are already off when I turn the ignition off. Also the clock hasn't lit up for a similar amount of time - are these linked? It isn't a trick question, it's just I haven't had time to fix it. It predates my having the ECU out to mess with the chips BTW.

one day I'll spell a whole post right before I submit it

I will help unhijack the threae, yes mine does that too, they must be linked.

Back to the origional topic.....[;)]

Right, once again, I had the same thing, (even near side light) and it turned out to be another easy fix.

My LH fuse kept blowing and the dipped beam wouldn't come on on that side, but main was fine. The blue main beam dash light would come on with Dipped and go out with Main too. After lots of poking around, replacing fuses, checking blubs, I replaced the fuse, then happened to wiggle the wire fron the back of the headlight, the fuse popped and the light went out. I stripped the casing back and low and behold, the earth and dipped live wires had both broken and had enough exposed wire to come into contact with each other, so most of the time the lights are raised, they short out blowing the fuse.

Solder the wires back together and wrap with plenty of insulating tape and it should work again. I think the problem is that the wire is zip tied very tightly to the back of the headlight in and awkward U shape, and this means the wire always bends in the same place, work hardens and breaks. When I put mine back together I only loosely zip tied the wire, so it hads more freedom to move and wont always bend in the same place.

Hope that helps[:)]

(Sorry Fen, don't have a clue about yours[8D])

I'll let you off Rich, just this once [:D]

Interesting on the stereo problem... Slim and I both have Blaupunkt DAB 52 head units. However that is not the problem because mine worked fine until a few weeks ago and it MAY have started at the same time as the clock light failed. That said Slim's clock lights up - I know 'cos I've seen it.

I just have to stick my oar in too [:D] I had exactly the same thing as Rich on my LH popup, but I had to resort to an auto electrician to fix as the short was right where the cable disappears into the bulkhead. All these years of popping up and down obviously chaffs the cable.

Thank guys, will strip the wires back tonight and have a good look, i was tempted just to pop in 30amp fuses and tray and trace the short by smalling the melting cable but i will not resort to that yet!!!! [:D]

Dont you just love forums..... [:)]

They're sodding expensive...

Back in the days before 't'interweb thing I had my 220 Turbo and I didn't have a clue what to do with it, so I just drove it.

Just a thought, try checking for a dodgy earth connection behind the dash.

FIXED....

Yes it was the wires just before the connector that had all been bent, one was completely broken 2 others were stripped bare.

Load of insulating tape and all is well with the world. Aint it great when you can fix something yourself and dont get rodgered by mechanics.

Even gave it a wash to celebrate... [:)]

Nice one, that sounds just the same as mine, some stripped and one (or two it was last year[:D]) broken.

It is nice when you can fix something like that for nearly nothing isn't it[:)]
