Electrical Problems... a growing list..

Mmmm I'm not really sure about this one but I started counting up all the little faults to sort out on my 1989 C4 and the list is fairly large! I wander if there's a correlation?

Horn works most of the time but occasionally stops for a few days...
Instrument back light dimmer/ (potentiometer) does not function
Intermittent wiper speed control does not function
Interior light switching - manually works but not on door open (middle setting, both sides the same)
Cigarette Lighter - no voltage
Occasional Relay 'chatter' from fuse box - window operation intermittently works with ignition off whilst this chatter is going on.

Also Mirror horizontal adjustment does not function - I have teardrops - looking at the wiring there is no correlation between the wiring loom colours of the car and the mirror - the door looms were cut near the mirror base when I bought the car - possibly from an attempted mirror theft- does anyone have wiring schematics/ colour code for this?

Any recommendations on how to fix these?

Hmm, well I have a few funnies too: front luggage lid lamp not working (replaced bulb!) and engine lid lamp only works when one or both of the doors are open and interior lamp on. Plus the front motor on the drivers seat doesn't work, so I decided to start with that one and removed the seat to find a big old Alpine amp under it with some slicing and splicing done to the seat power leads to take a feed to the amp, so that the power cable for the front motor no longer connects...!!! That's one for a later date as it will take some cold logic and methodological approach, so I promptly bolted the seat back in again!

I would start with all of your earth points, making sure that the connections are clean and tight, that's my starting point.

Sounds like bad earth, check the fuse box?

Nick, whilst taking the seats out of mine, I discovered a really old Alpine amp under the seat too! exposed live wired which i taped up straightaway!

Fuses all OK.

I'm thinking about lifting out the fusebox just to check everything is OK. How hard is it to get out?

Will look into earthing points...

Cheers
