Electrical Problems

Hi Guys and Girls

I am working through the problems that the AA Inspection highlighted and was wondering if anyone has come across these following problems and if so, have you managed to rectify them yourselves or not?

1) Heated rear window not working
2) Front and rear fog lamps not working (may just be bulbs??)
3) Battery discharging on it's own with nothing apparantly on

I look forward to your replies.

Many thanks

Phil

Hi there Phil,
Sounds like fuse? Check the following (Yours maybe different):
At the fuse panel check the fuse closest to the front - fog lights front.
Fuse next to this is for Licence plate lights, rear fog, & switch illumination.
Check licence plate lights.
Rear window demister is on same fuse as cig lighter - check this if it works.
As for the battery; yeah its great isn't it.?... with every thing off there is still a discharge... your batt is feeding the ignition immobiliser, possibly an alarm system ( even if not armed), some models have door lock heater elements in them- these use stuff all but it all adds up. Plus your radio will use a couple of watts for memory.
Its for these reasons I have toyed with the idea of fittng a solar panel on the rear parcel shelf - permanetly wired to batt - but a price of 50 or so pounds puts me off.
Another idea (cheaper) is fit a simple bat isolation switch on the earth terminal - but you'd loose your radio station memory. (stiff?)[;)]
