electronic dipstick

I recently took delivery of a new C2S Cab and the dealer said it would use about a litre of oil in the first 1000 miles. In fact after about 1800 miles the elecrtonic dipstick on the dashboard showed that the oil was low. I put in a litre of Mobil 1 as sggested and all looked good for a week or so. But now the electronic dipstick is showing that there is too much oil in the engine - there are no warning lights but all the bars are filled in right to the top!

I am assumung that the electronic dipstick thingy is just not that caurate either that or someone has ben putting oil in may car while it is parked outside the house!

Has anyone experience similar? Is the car about to blow up? Or should I just ignore it and get on with enjoying it?

I find the electronic dipstick a bit temperamental myself.
I was told by my OPC technician the following. What you want to do is work off the measurement after you have had the engine up to running temperature. I usually have a look after I return to the car after shopping or something"¦ ie not too long, so the engine is still warm. The other thing is make sure the car is parked on a level surface, ie no incline.

Thanks Ronnie, I'll try checking it when it is warm and see if that makes a differece.

You obviously don't go shopping with your wife. I find my car is completely stone cold by the time we've walked around every shoe shop in London.....

Checking after fueling up is a very good time; Fuel forecourts are allegedly perfectly leveled...

You do have to take your time paying and slowing walking back though... Oh, and it annoys the hell out of the guy waiting to fill up...

Hi Truant
If it's any consolation, my 997S has used a fair bit of oil (about 1 litre) over the past 1500 miles (now at 4,500 miles on the odo), so much so that I asked the OPC to check the RMS when it went in for warranty work!
Car returned to me full of Mobil 1(all bars showing) and with no charge for the oil, which I thought was a nice touch.
It's early days yet, so I keep some mobil in the garage just in case, but I suspect that after the engine is fully bedded in the oil consumption will decrease.
I never had any problem with my Boxsters!
I do a lot of short journey stop/start driving so that may have something to do with it.
I assume it is quite normal (unless someone tells me otherwise!) - the OPC didn't seem worried at all.
Regards
Rob
