Because of the snow covering Suffolk, today's planned golf day was cancelled. So I decided to look through my garage receipts to remind myself what is required in my forthcoming service. I thought my experiences of nearly 11 years of owning my 2.5 Boxster might be of interest to others.
I bought the car, new, in April 1999, and its current mileage is just over 55,200 miles. Although I guess this is a comparatively low usage car, it has been looked after well: used regularly; no short trips; always brought up to full temperature before using higher revs; taken out to dry brakes after washing; dealer serviced at prescribed intervals etc.
Apart from the annual services what has been done?
The Rear Seal done under warranty within the first 2 years, and a new battery fitted after just over 6 years (note it was cheaper at the Porsche dealer than the Halford's quote!) The gas boot strut was replaced after 8 years and a handbrake switch replaced (caused hood closing problems) again after 8 years. The only extra item done at service was an anti-roll bar drop link arm replaced after 5 years. For consumables, I am just about to buy a third set of rear tyres, and these will be followed by a 2nd replacement set of fronts. All tyres have been 17" P Zero Rossos. Services are as per standard Porsche schedules, e.g. brake fluid change every 2 years, spark plugs every 4 years. Mobil 1 oil has been used.
The hood is original with the plastic window still fine, although I fit the original hardtop throughout the winters.
Surprisingly I am still on the original brake pads and discs. So I hope I will not get rude responses about my restrained driving style!
I have been pleased with the customer experience at Colchester Porsche, from purchase through servicing. Clearly PC prices are high, but I have attended their golf day every year and have availed myself of their lunch offer whilst the car is being serviced. So that softens the bottom line somewhat. However, as I am facing replacement pads/discs in the near future, I may investigate independents for this specific work. Has anyone else got a similar trouble free record, and has anyone gone beyond 60K on original brakes?
