Emberton Park picnic/BBQ

There was a tiny little mention in the recent PP about this event and I thought it might be worth mentioning it on the forum. As long as the weather is kind this had been a popular event for the past few years that I've attended and it would be good to make this year as successful.

Entrance to Emberton Park is usually about £3 but, apparently there is a special dispensation for those of you driving Porsches to get in for free!!

Bring along your picnics or BBQs and join in the fun. I believe Emberton Park are not keen on fires but as long as the BBQ is off the ground I think it's OK. Practice at assembling the BBQ first is always a good idea (remember last year Mike??).

The date is August 12th (the Glorious 12th no less!!) and, from memory, reckon on getting there for around 1-ish. Maybe Sue or Mike would confirm the details. It makes a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing Sunday afternoon - I commend it to the Region!!!

Dave

Dave - thanks for publicising this on here. I'll contact Sue to see if she can add a bit more detail (I'm away again [:)] - with the family this time!).

For the last 3 - 4 years these days have been well attended, and are a great social occasion; very relaxed. I recommend it; shame I can't be there too.

Disposable BBQ's are good, and best propped up on a few house bricks or breezeblocks (but remember that bricks store the heat, should you want to take them home afterwards!) A bucket of water / sand wouldn't go amiss, for Safety reasons [8|].

(Dave - I've now mastered the portable bar-b' that I had with me last year!)

Dave, Mike,

Agreed a great day out for all the family. Hopefully we will see some new faces this year. (Mike I sent you an email off line about some new chums from Buckingham in the wrong region).

Cheers

Ooh good. I'll get the apron on and start being creative again.

Do you think i'll get dispensation on the gate if I have the 'Porsche Support Vehicle' sticker in the window of the Volvo?

It's either that or Max will have to travel under the bonnet[;)]

I hope to come along to this, although I'm not entirely certain what's going on. Is this part of a wider event, or is it solely an R10 picnic?

Chris,

It's purely an R10 "thing" - although all are, of course, welcome. It's just an opportunity to enjoy a relaxed picnic cum BBQ in the lakeside setting of Emberton Park. We've done it for a few years now - although it's usually been a little earlier in the year - and it's been pretty successful. Very children-friendly, have a game of football (away from the cars!!) or whatever takes your fancy. Even chat about cars has been known!!

Hope to see you (and everybody else) there.

Regards

Dave

Hello all,

New to this (forum! not shows!), I'll see if i can make it? Weather permitting of course - I hate that !

Live in Swindon, Wilts. not long had my 964 Turbo look cab.

Hope to meet some of you guys and gals.

Simon.

Hi all, Hopefully Rachel and i will be there, what time is everyone planning to arrive and where do you intend to plant ourselves - Emberton is quite large!!!
Ian

Ian,

I was planning on trying to get there for about 12-ish - the post at the top of the thread suggests about 1. I spoke to Mike the other evening and he said he usually tries to pick a plot that would cater for about 25 cars (hopeful or what??) and is suitably away from the water to avoid balls etc. going swimming!!

If I remember correctly from last year, if you take the left fork just after entering the Park, follow the road for awhile and there is a good place just on the left by a small clump of trees. I have a feeling that description may not narrow it down too much.

The other option is, if I get there first, just look for a blindingly bright 964!!! That should crack it!!

Regards

Dave

Ah. Just read the park rules.

Rule 12: No person shall fire or discharge any firearm or missile...

Tsk. Bleedin' nanny state....

Blast!!! That'll put the kibosh on the after lunch duels then!! Have to think of something else for the entertainment.

Dave

Well that's only pistols ruled out, we can still opt for a mace or a sword to duel with.

I suppose it also rules out my son's Thunderbird-2 toy, falls into the missile category.

Hi All,

Steve Feakin, Tiggy and myself will be attending at around 2pm if you can all wait around that long. Would be there earlier but playing footie in the morning, Will look out for a bright yellow 911, but if you see 2 x Silver Boxsters driving aimlessly around please be kind and direct us in !!!!

PS Have got loads of fireworks and .............Oh just read the rules, Pants !!!!

Cheers, see you all tomorrow

Dan

As of 8:30 this morning (Sunday) the weather doesn't look too great. Just started spitting with rain here in MK and the sky doesn't look promising. BBC Weather Forecast is still saying "Heavy Showers" - same as it's been promising pretty much all week.

I'll hang on until later before making a decision but sitting around Emberton Park in the pouring rain doesn't make for a perfect afternoon I'm afraid!!!

Dave

It seems that today is going to offer us the best of British weather - changeable!!! At 10:00 it's all blue skys!!!

From my viewpoint it looks like it's all systems go!! No point in dithering -looking forward to seeing everybody there!!

Regards

Dave

Well - as expected the weather actually DID turn out pretty good - as did R10 in general. 13 cars at the last count and a very pleasant afternnon it was too. Some of the more energetic types managed to get their years' worth of excercise with the cricket while others (like me) sat back and enjoyed it!!

The rain came as a gentle reminder that the footie was on the TV. Well done everyone.

Regards

Dave
