About a year ago I copied this picture from a Rennlist forum. I've been able to obtain all of the emergency spare kit, wheel, jack etc but I can't find a part number for the expanded polystyrene packing that the wheel is shown sitting on. My OPC is unable to locate it can anyone here help? (Also posted on 997 forum & RenTech)

I've hunted through the PET, and I can't find it (yet). I can find the foam piece that goes inside the spare, but not the one you show. Is it just a loose piece, and where is it normally located? In the front luggage compartment? I did find a foam piece there on the parts list, but it doesn't look quite like the part in the photo.

Richard, thanks for taking the time to look for this. I only have this picture so I can only guess that its a loose piece of polystyrene packing that is designed to support the wheel at the correct height. I've tried putting the wheel directly onto the rear seat but it locks against the sides before making contact with the seat leaving a gap of about 75 to 150mm. When not in use on the rear seat I think it will fit beneath a wheel stowed in the luggage compartment. Until I can track this item down I'll probably use odd pieces of soft luggage e.g. sleeping bag, to support the wheel.

BTW the wheel cover shown in the photograph has seat belt retaining straps and this makes it much more suitable for rear stowage than the one I have been supplied with. I think this must be the kit that is supplied in those countries that have a legal requirement to carry a spare.

I have seen no such thing in either of my 996s. This is not a Porsche item I don't think, at least not for a 996.
