Emergency spare wheel for my 987.2/2009?

Planning a big euro tour next year and not too confident about just having a can to inflate a flat.
I think early 986's had a get you home emergency wheel in the front. If this is so will those wheels fit my 987.2?

Not sure if the wheel will fit. I would guess so but others here will know. However I always carry a Silverline puncture repair kit. This allows you to plug a puncture without removing the wheel. I have never had one fail on me.

Graham,

Have a look at this link from way back:

The biggest problem of course is that a space saver wheel and a suitable jack take up most of the available space in the "boot”, which isn’t ideal if you’re planning a lengthy tour. I reckon that a comprehensive breakdown policy and maybe a puncture repair kit like that mentioned by Robin probably is a better bet … a scissor jack would also be useful.

If you’re touring and have to use the spare will you have room in the front boot for the wheel that you take off, particularly if it’s a rear wheel?

Glad I asked the question now!
I didn't realise how different the 986 is to the 987 in the front. (now I've googled this thought)
As a habit now we put 2 pull-alongs in the front + a squashy bag for shoes boots etc and still room to spare, the rear boot for coats and maps and such like.
I was thinking the rear would have to swallow the pull-alongs if the wheel was in the front.
However, never gave it a thought about the massive rear wheel when off...….
I have a can of the instant repair in the car since I bought it, so will look into the Silverline solution from Robin.

Thank you all as ever.
Gaham.

A long while ago I had similar thoughts to you Graham. As Andrew has indicated I found it impossible to get a rear wheel in the front boot but it was (just) possible to get it inside … one advantage of the Cayman’s rear hatch! Not an option for the Boxster unless Mrs Hillclimber is happy to have the wheel on her lap! [;)]
