Emergency transmission run in white

i used my 2009 987.2 boxster on the 31st of December and all was fine. Used it again yesterday 3rd Jan and approx half a mile from home a message in white came up stating ‘Emergency Transmission Run’ I stopped the car without issue, ie the gears changed down as normal to 1st. I switched off the engine and restarted, no message so drove on for 15 miles or so and no message. Later I took the car out again, no message.
As I was worried I went out again this morning, ie from a cold start and the message came up again this time maybe a mile from home. Same procedure as yesterday, switched off and on again and drove on as normal.

The manual is of no use just says ’have fault remedied immediately ‘ if only I knew what the fault was.

had the car since October and driven, without issue, just under 2000 miles, now lost a little faith in reliability. Any help would be appreciated.

We had a 2009 C2S with pdk. We had an issue with the pdk. Turning off and on resets the sensors/computer etc. So something is causing the message, but with an immediate 'reset' it seems to be going away, so it is transitory - or that's my theory!! I was told with ours that there had been an issue with earlier temperature sensors in the box, so thats one possibility, especially if it is being recreated when its a cold start - which implies temperature related, but it could well be something else. It needs to go to an OPC, or an independent who understands the pdk's, and have its codes read, as there should be something there telling them why it's doing it. Hopefully something straightforward - good luck!!

I had exactly the same issue in my 2010 987.2 Cayman S. It was nothing to do with the PDK box, it was the coil packs. I was already aware they were on their way out as misfires had been recorded. My view was that it made sense to fix the known problem and see if that cured the "Emergency Transmission Run" message, which it did. The message was getting more and more frequent, but since I changed the coil packs about 18 months ago, I've never had it since.

If you've never had the coil packs changed and you have misfires logged, that's where my money would go.

Changing them is a DIY job which will cost about £250 for OE parts.

Cheers,
Bryan

Hiya,
I had a similar problem with my 2010 987.2 though the warning light might have been in red. It was a problem with the temperature sensor inside the PDK, a known problem with early units. Unfortunately, it cost £720 to fix (ouch) as it's a big job though the actual sensor was only £25 (see the attachment with the techie info). To make matters worse I was in France, the car had to be 'repatriated' to the UK, and the delivery company broke the drive shaft when unloading it. They admitted responsibility and paid for that part of the repair (£2000).
Since then it's been purring away happily.
I hope yours is a cheaper, simpler fix.
Good luck!

Thanks Andy, when did that happen to you, can you remember the mileage?
mine has done 50000 miles without issue, I had the clutch oil changed 1000 miles ago as the car is 2009.
a friend of mine has also found the tech sheet, oddly the issue has only manifested itself when the unit is very cold ie 2-3 degrees, went out to try it today 6 degrees, and previously over 10 degrees and no issue but that may be just coincidence.
taking it back to the dealer who is a Porsche specialist indie, hopefully they can fix the issue.

Thanks again, last question, where/who did the work on the car?
enjoy Spain in the summer, don’t take Basil with you ??

Hi, what happened to your car, did you get it fixed, did it just go away or did you sell the car?

Hi, so what happened to the car, did you get it fixed, sell it or did the issue go away on its own?
