Car has just failed mot on emissions.[] 4.29 to be precise.[] Remember I have the e-bay chip in? Maybe I'll put my old one back in for the re-test (and maybe keep it in)
Has anyone else with one of these chips (Fen?) had an emission test post-chip?
The chip was the first thing to spring to mind, but may not be the only contributing factor.
I guess it's something I should of checked after putting something that monkeys with the brain. Hindsight and all that...[8|] Rather than plug-in-and-play! and think I can get away with it.
Also, one of the headlight clips was broken. I have a part no. 944.631.912.00 which I wrote down from a previous thread (I think it was Fen?) Did you get these from Bert Gear. Of course it's only a phone call away, but someone may reply before I sort it.

Check for an air leak - when my emmisions test cap was split (at rear of engine -don't know if all models have it) my emmisions were high - didn't really understand why.
Also what colour are the plugs - maybe the mixture just needs slight adjustment.

Got my headlight clips from Porschapart at £1.20. I remember from the thread they were 41p. My dilema is, my tax runs out at the end of the month, so need to get my MOT to get tax.[] (would get it regardles of course) The Mot guy alligned my headlights, JESUS CHRIST what a difference!
I'm taking my car to Chris Turner tomorrow in Willesden, North London. He reckons it could be the air flow sensor. I have an interesting thing going on with my rear brakes! He has a on car lathe for discs????
Anyway, it's a bit late to ask if anyone has used him, but I might drop into the conversation how people get recommended on this here forum for good work (or not!)

Just got my car back.
The air flow meter has been sorted/repaired.
Headlight actually needed a new frame.
Got my hand brake adjusted, along with a new spring.
Had my rear discs skimmed and new pads. Because of the corrosion build up it was stopping the inner pads from making contact with the disc.
Chris Turner is a really nice friendly chap, and will use him to service the car etc. in the future.

The guy I took it to was very amusing. He is a VW/Audi repairer etc. On the couple of occasions I was in his company he came out with...

[]'I nearly bought one of these years ago when they were twenty one grand. But I found the handling dissapointing and the Audi Coupe had a much better driving position!'

[]'Those headlight clips , I could of sorted it. The headlights are off a Golf anyway...!'

Just a few things which came up in conversation. I think it was a protective mechanism masking his regret, dissing it in his own way!
Also, for anyone with Baltic Blue... it is now grey. Well according to him.
He is only down the road, I might pop in for some more laughs. It brought a smile to my face and he didn't say things to be offensive.
The one he did miss out was 'Well you know, it's not really a Porsche....!'[]

Obviously his abillity to fix Porsches is significantly better than his web site [8|] I wonder what the critera is to become a member of "The HTML Writers Guild" I assume it is the abillity to reduce a web page to the absolute minimum. Perhaps it is an RS web site.

OK, so the web site is not very good (hate the moving letter icon for the email), and his navigation buttons wander over the page, but he does have an automatic translation service available (WHY ?).

Still, if you let Microsoft FrontPage lose on your site, well.....

In my experience, mechanics make poor web designers (no time/interest usually)

Isnt it amazing how this happens.. All the time whenever i turn up at a BBQ or Party or wherever, i get

1. Dosent that have a VW engine

2. My dad/uncle/brother used to have one of those

3. Arnt they full of VW parts

4. Its not a real Porsche

5. Its not really that fast.....

Most people who make these comments usually drive a Mundao..

The guy who made the last comment i decided to take out a blast along some country roads... Suffice to say he headed for the toilet after the run...

Is this just 944 specific or Porsche specidfic or does it happen if you have a nice car period?

Everyone is an expert when it comes to the 944.

No it does seem to be 924/944 specific, you get used to it over the years, and yes you're right most of those comments come from people who have never even sat in a Porsche (even a VW/Audi one).

However, it does mean they are spectacularly cheap to buy []

I dunno - when I had my first 911 I had lots of comments along the lines of "it's built like a kit car(?)" (because the 911 has a carpet made up of lots of smalle bits I think) or "it's just a beetle with a bigger engine" etc.

The CO only really tells you if you're running rich or lean at that point in the rev range. A high HC reading (like 1000+) could indicate a misfire though. That's about it.
