Encased in ice - any starting issues?

Guys,
Just wondering if I should be wary of anything.

My car has been buried in snow for weeks and, having cleared most of the snow off it today, I now discover there is ice encrusted in parts too.

If melt water has leaked down into the engine compartment and then frozen again, this strikes me as something that might cause some damage when I try to start her up. Wondering if I should just wait till the spring!

Am I worrying too much? - presumably they survive much harsher environments than Scotland.

I'm sure the winter testing regime would have looked at this, so I'm sure you should be OK.

I'd fire it up, and if there were any unusual noises, switch it off. If not, just let it warm up.

Best of luck

Really don't think there's an issue Mark.

However, if you have opened the engine cover and seen substantial ice you could try aiming a heater or hairdrier at the affected parts, obvioulsy keeping it out of the way of potential drips and protected with an RCD.

This is what happens when you don't use it [8|] [:)]

Indeed - and I'm determined to use it!

Thanks for the reassurance guys - although it has all proved a bit hypothetical so far because just getting into tha car took hours! Battery down at 4.8 volts and as soon as darkness started to fall the doors froze up again!

Will make another attempt tomorrow...

Wha hoo! - She's going again. Once I had enough charge in the battery to turn her over only took half a second of engine turning to fire up perfectly.

Well, at least we don't have to worry about our antifreeze not working, and cracked engine blocks.

And all of the oil leaks help to keep corrosion at bay....![;)]

(Removes tongue from cheek)[:D]
