I am having my engine balanced and have run into a small issue in that one of the piston pins has a larger inner diameter than the other 3 meaning it is about 5 grams lighter than the others. This means taking quite a large ammount of material so he said it was bet to leave it slightly different and just balance the rest. Is this normal to have one pin different?

Id suggest asking Kevin Eacock. Most 944 'tuning' involves bolting pieces of rubbish from Linds*y Racing onto archaic Turbos; so I doubt that many people have balanced their crank and rods.
Id be interested to hear how close everything was; particularly if all parts are original. Ive been led to believe that theyre pretty close out of the factory. Of course: this was far truer of the early cars...

Less than a gram isn't worth worrying about (carbon buildup can be that much), but it seems a bit odd that one of your pins had been done before. Personally I'd try to get a replacement pin or four to get them all the same, but if the guy says he can do the machining to match the other three to the light one and the light one is OK strength-wise then it shouldn't be a problem.
