Just finished my engine bay and arches.

A few RS/RSR upgrades, Centre Gravity then minor bodywork blemishes are next on the list......

That looks fantastic. Are you going to enter a concours competition ?

What about the brake discs ? Are you going to to replace them, or try and clean them up ?

I'm well impressed.

Porker993, the discs look messy in that shot from the cleaning process, but after using the brakes they look fine again.
Not planning on going anywhere near concours as my car OCD is bad enough as it is, think I'd be too obsessive to go down the competition route. [&:]

993C4S_KO, definitely driving the car but it's really a weekend/holiday/event/project car rather than a daily driver.

JB 3.2, I followed instruction from a guy called Jackal who is on the 911uk forum. It was relatively hard work with fifteen years worth of tar and grime under the arches, taking two or three hours on each arch for example. But the results are worth it and with the appropriate chemicals the process become so much easier.
You can follow Jackal's guides for detailing/upgrading/maintaining a 993 here (go to 993 detail in the left hand panel for the guide to cleaning the arches):

For the engine bay I used a combination of engine degreaser, Tarminator for tar/gunk removal, Aerospace 303 and then Megiuars Elite Trim Detailer. The bearing that controls the speed of the pulleys on the front of the engine fan packed up and needed replacing. The fan housing needing taking apart for this so I had they guys at Tognola clean up and lacquer the fan and spray the fan housing satin black. Painting the fan housing black really helped to clean up the engine bay.

Thxs Sam - I am not sure I will be able to use the car for ANYTHING once I have got it to the beautiful state like yours... Well Done anyway...

Good luck John. I'd recommend some protection for you hands as my fingernails are still black almost a week later, despite wearing gloves!

I used to be a bit like this - cleaning it so well I didn't want to get it dirty.

In the end I decided I wanted to drive it rather than leave it in the garage gleaming - so I now always put it away dirty (a relative term of course !!) so if it looks like rain etc I just get it out and drive it. If it looks like a dry spell I give it a good going over first.

I must say yours does look smart though - now where is that wash leather.......
