Engine Bay Fuel Lines - Good Advice.......

After numerous telling offs and warnings (looking at you Eldavo and probably some other kind souls!), I've decided to sort the engine bay fuel lines to prevent any nasty fires due to 35 year old rubber hoses with very hot things underneath them. And due to the fact I've recently scavenged a good gearbox, a free, mint, unicorn exhaust heat shield and rear coilovers (and a free fan blower switch that somehow survived and just needed cleaned, £60 on ebay but I digress!) from a previously very tidy but now toasted late model turbo, the time must now be right to take preventative measures! Car in question not only was toasted in the engine bay, it also had a melted dash, clock pods, steering wheel and seats. A thoroughly nasty incident. The guy (or girl) had obviously spent a fortune, and there was a belt service kit in the boot that I imagine would have been getting fitted soon. Why didn't you attend to the fuel lines? (note to self...............)

There is a distinct lack of anything available on these shores, unless you plan on buying a full set of OEM lines from Porsche (or going the full buy everything you need and work out how to do it in a non OEM fashion, too hard for me!) and the pain involved in fitting them. As my metal lines look decent enough, and a fuel leak on the underside isn't likely to be fatal anyway, Mr Eldavo pointed me stateside as they have kits available that join the feed and return metal pipes in the inner wing (cutting tool included) with compression fittings, and then into the engine bay. After not much searching I found what looks a decent option for quality and price, a Rennbay kit supplied by Paragon Products. $110 plus $40 shipping (choose this option as it defaults to $68), a total of £118 of your UK pounds.

Well within my capabilities to fit, and with nice new high temperature, Aeroquip brand, textile coated hose, we should be keeping fire engines at bay for a good while.

I would recommend anybody with original lines to take action (practice what you preach Stuart......). There are kits for early and late 944 and also 924S. It also looks like the late kit comes ready for a 3 bar FPR which is a bonus for anybody running one. (3 bar FPR is not threaded, unlike the stock 2.5 FPR item)

Hopefully I don't combust before they arrive!

They look good! I preferred a plug and play kit for easiness with all the right lengths and fittings the novice that I am!
