Hi,

Does anyone know if a US spec 1990 C2 should have an engine check light or not ?

The light on mine has come on, however I did have that gauge out of the car the other day and removed a couple of bulbs.... when I came to put them back I wasn't couldn't remember if the engine check light should have had a bulb or a blanking plug [8|].... so I put a bulb in.

Car seems to be running ok.

Richard,

From what I've seen on Rennlist, yes the US models have a CEL whereas the early ROWs don't. Though, I think tiptronic models might have it?

From what I can gather the CEL most often comes on when there is a problem with the O2 sensor.

p.s. See you at Silverstone [:)]

I saw something on Renlist too but it seemed to indicate it was on 1991 models.

Yes I'll be at Silvestone so see you then.

Adrian Streather's 964 bible states that the CEL was fitted from MY91 US cars. Some of his posts on Rennlist about the CEL indicate that prior to that, the wiring is there but the bulb was not fitted by Porsche. But even if you put a bulb in it won't work properly because it needs a post 91 DME to utilize it. So I guess from that, the bulb lights up because it can't talk to the DME properly? Therefore, you might aswell take it out again and save the added weight. [;)]
