Engine cleaning

After an inspiring look at some of the cars on display at Ragley yesterday, I've
got an urge to clean my engine bay. Other than avoiding getting electrics wet,
has anyone done this and got suggestions of what to use for cleaning.

Thanks, Barry

I picked up a trick from a valeter at my local Indy. He uses Autosmart histyle described on their web site as

HIGHSTYLE - Our most versatile dressing. Leaves a
weather resistant finish for all tyres, vinyl and plastics,
inside and out. Unbeatable gloss and lustre.

Whatever. I bought a trade drum of the stuff and squirt it liberally on a cold engine. Then just leave it ..... or wipe away the excess if you feel the need. It brings everything up shiny and new. Use it on tyres and plastics too including under bonnet plastics and hoses. Only complaint is it kills the bubbles when you next wash the car but wont affect you if you use it on the engine only. Its never affected the starting ability of the car either.

Lasts for absolutely ages.

I had my 911 valeted recently and he took one look under the bonnet and was stunned lol. He thought I must have been polishing and cleaning for hours.
