If my memory serves me there is a thread on here somewhere about cleaning said mercury switch.

I read on another forum that it works with the Parking lights and not side lights.
I'll try that tomorrow.

cheers

Eh! What are the parking lights if there not side lights?

It works when you have your lights on position 1 and the bonnet open.

I replaced mine as the wire had broken, about £15 from the OPC.

Jolly handy it is too...

Parking lights are when u turn the indicator either left or right with the ignition off.

That's true - but why on earth would the engine light only come on with parking lights and not side lights which (I think to Slim's point) are just parking lights for both sides at the same time?

There is an FAQ to fix the tilting mercury switch in the 944 register section at the club website www.porscheclubgb.com

but if it's only £15 to replace.........[;)]
