Engine cover support struts

I need to replace the two support struts which hold the cover in the open position. Has anyone any useful tips they can pass on before I start this task? Thanks in advance.

Start with the left hand strut, i.e. the one with the least impeded access. After replacing that, you might find the lid is properly supported, thus avoiding the immediate replacement of the difficult right hand strut. Put other new strut back on the shelf ready for when it too packs up! In any case, don't be to reluctant to do the job, it's MUCH easier than it looks, once you suss out how to release the clips.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Now waiting for the next rainy day and will then proceed.

I'm pretty sure there are also different strength lid struts ( measurement is in kN ? or N on the side ) - for cars which have rear spoilers - as the lids are heavier.

I think it's possible to double up a pair of struts ( using a longer bolt to anchor them ) - if you want to / only have access to one side - might just eb a Blue Peter bodge?
