engine cutting out

Not mine, but the neighbour's '86 lux. Engine has died several times now, just cutting out completely whilst driving. Re-starts ok, but apparently a bit un-nerving in the middle of rush hour on the M25.... Tried my spare DME relay last night, but, as the car is abandoned at the bottom of the road, I guess he'll be asking me for any ideas later! Cheers,

My S2 suffered a similar problem earlier this year. Turned out to be a faulty engine temperature sensor - when my indie measured the output it was reading OK to about 30 degrees and then shooting off the scale - I assume the engine management system then shut down assuming an overheat - not sure if it's the same set up on the Lux but the part was only £15 so it may be worth trying.

This is odd. It's my next-door neighbours car. He drove it back from it's abandoned spot this evening, and it cut out three times in about 500 yards.

I watched it idle perfectly smoothly on the drive for 5 minutes, when it just died. No coughing or hunting, no change in revs, just as if someone had turned the key off.

Maybe there's a ghost in my street [8|]

Sounds electric. Mine did this for a short while after I had been working on it. I fixed my fault by fitting the negative terminal to the battery properly with a spanner rather than leaving it lying loosely over the battery terminal.

Apparently that's important to do. [8|]

Could be a faulty flywheel sensor.
