Engine Diagnostics 'Durametric' tool for reading codes ?

Hi,
I have had an emissions light on since I bought the car in late March, I have had it reset several times at a specialist and have since changed the plugs and coil packs but it has come back on again after a couple of days. I am trying to get to the bottom of it and believe it t to be either MAF, oxygen sensors or problem with vario cams.

My question is has anyone bought or used the durametric diagnostic tool, please see link:-
http://www.durametric.com/buy.aspx

It is about £150 and seems a good investment but would like to know of anyone, if it does what it says ? Because at the end of the day anyone can advertise something on the net and it could land well clear of any expectations.

Any experiances would be appreciated ?

Thanks..................Adam

I have no personal experience of the Durametric software but a lot of guys on www.renntech.org use it, and swear by it. It is the best of the DIY diiagnostic tools, as it is written specifically for Porsche cars. A bit like VAG-Com for VWs. Take a look at Renntech (you have to register, but it's free) as they have a Diagnostics forum which is useful, along with the 996 forum there. IMHO it is the best technical forum for modern Porsches.

I have one and it does exactly what is says. As above Rentech/Rennlist has lots of info.

You should be able to read out the faults as listed on their website and after you have fixed the fault turn off the fault indicator.

Thanks for the reply, I will check out rentech now. Also good time to buy from the states with the exchange rate etc.

Sounds like a good idea for PCGB to buy (say one per region) and then loan them out to members ... just an idea?

Does look good
but they say on that site "2000-2005 Porsche 911 GT2, GT3 (996)"
My GT3 is 1999, I presume this is the same as the 2000 they list ?

The Americans call everyting from August 1999 a MY2000. I'm not sure when they got the GT3, but it might not have been until '00. Your car has the same DME (Motronic 5.2.2) as all non-eGas 996s, so it should be fine.

Thanks Richard

Does anyone know the import duty you would pay if buying this from the states, on the basis they say they would put the price of the kit on the outside of the packaging & not ship it as a gift or sample ?
