Engine fan query

Now on my second Boxster, this time a 987 2.7 tip, I have noticed that occasionally when starting the car - even from stone cold - there's a fan noise which sounds like an engine cooling fan doing its thing. Definitely comes from the back, and I guess the drivers side. Haven't had a chance to really check thoroughly. (Air con is off.)

I can't recall this happening to the last one I had, 986 model 2.7, certainly not on starting.

Question is, is this normal? If so, why? If it's not normal, what is your opinion as to what could be going on?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

The fan on the drivers side is the engine bay cooling fan. Mine never runs when starting in the morning after an overnight stop.

However, if its had a good run out, and been parked for up to 2 hours, it does occassionally run on engine restart.

You may have a dodgy temperature sensor in the engine compartment, but if this was the case i'd expect the fan to be running most of the time.

Had similar experiences. Also on second boxster 2.7 tip. Engine fan comes on far more than with my previous one, even when it has had plenty of time to cool down. Just thought it was a quirk of the new model. Never thought to have it checked out but maybe I should!
