engine fire???

SMOKE AND EVEN MORE SMOKE started to pour out of the back of my 1995 993 C2 , after isolaing the batteryit stopped. It came from behind the fan, i took out the alternator to find the power cable from the alternator had exploded and melted, i noticed all of the insulation rubber around the lead was very brittle. I have heard that there was a recall for some engine loom cable. Is this the lead??? Will it be repaired by Porsche free of charge under recall procedure. I was so pleased to have a screw off battery connector(to stop the battery fading) this saved the car, cost of £10. Can any one advise please?
Thanks
Tim

Screw off battery connection seems to be a good idea.... I had the loom changed...Just ring an OPC with the VIN number and they will be able to tell you if been changed or not.

Hopefully OPC will sort the damage out for you.

Hi guys, thanks for the info, the isolator switch is from ebay, battery isolator, from tompone at 4.49 +1.50 postage, works very well off the negative terminal. Has anyone had their loom changed recently? Also, there was no other damage to the car as i pulled the bonnet and isolated the battery asap.
Thanks
Tim

Well done OPC Swindon, i contacted Graham Simms ref the fire and he checked to see if my imported 993 had ahd the engine loom changed, it had not so he booked her in the following week to be done under warrentee, next day ready for collection, washed, repaired and a clean bill of health, best part...NO CHARGE. Thanks to Graham and the team at OPC Swindon.[:D][:D][:D][8D][8D][8D][;)][;)][;)]

OPC Swindon seems to crop up in positive news in lots of the forum sections, shame there are not more of them (good OPCs that is)

They did my loom recall a couple of years ago - couldn't have been more helpful. Even washed the car as I recall.
