Engine identification....

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone here can identify an engine from the VIN number? Mine is an 86 S1 Lux but has allegedly had an engine swap in it's past.

On the weekend my friend achieved 143mph (on a private disused airfield near Oxford i might add) but the book says that the top speed attainable is 131mph so im wondering if the engine that was put in wasn't a 2.5.
 
There will be clues all over it - but to help we would need you to find them all. A photo would be a start as itll help to identify 16v engines, but then youd still need to find the markings on the block to identify it further.
 
No Turbo [&o]. I made a point of looking for this as i noticed the acceleration was really rapid when i got it.

What i did notice though thanks to you guys was that my car is supposed to be power steered and that the belt is rubbing on the coolant hose so i'll have to sort that.

At risk of asking the obvious , how was this speed measurement taken , was it a calibrated speed gun or timer or are you saying the speedo showed that speed [;)]

Sat Nav and speedo, there was a variation of about 6 miles an hour give or take. To be honest i'd rather it was a dodgy speedo than a bigger engine because the insurance is bad enough as it is [:eek:]

Couldn't get the pics tonight, didn't leave the office till late im going to take the camera to work tomorrow.
